“Lenços dos namorados” were handkerchiefs that young Portuguese girls would embroider for boys, either as a declaration of love or as a memento if they were absent. They had bright and colourful floral patterns, along with short verses, often with spelling errors.
I took inspiration on their distinctive visual style but gave it a twist to create this concept. I wanted a clean and more detailed look while retaining a hand made feel. To do so, I drew all lines manually on my Surface Pro and deliberately misregistered the fills for an artisanal feeling.
