KIAX is a new clothing brand focused on contact sports uniforms. They requested my help to create their logo identity.
The challenge for this logo was its main usage. For the most part, it would be applied to textiles using dye-sublimation or embroidery. The limitations of these techniques meant we’d have to rely on thicker shapes and bold lines.
The client already had a preferred direction in mind, a type only logo that also included a standalone symbol. These would be used interchangeably, so both marks needed to stand on their own.
The solution was to customize an existing bold, slightly curvy, typeface to forge the wordmark logo. To meet the client’s standalone symbol objective, the ‘X’ became a handcrafted character representing a knotted belt, a very common feature in contact sports kimonos.
